Saturday Night Sleeping Tight

Eudora, KS - 11-28-08

Conor is snuggled in his bed, and I have every grandmother's dream job...staying with him while his parents go dancing at a classmate's wedding.
Conor and I watched Polar Express for the third time this weekend, and he danced along with the waitors to the "Hot, Hot...Chocolate" tune. Then, since we were both chilly after the afternoon trek through snow with his parents to find the perfect Christmas tree, we decided to make the perfect mug of hot chocolate, topped with a mountain of whipped cream! Everyone knows that guarantees sweet dreams!

We read "Baby Elmo's Christmas" and "Merry Christmas, Curious George." The village is nearly complete on top of the piano, including a tree-farmer's red tractor and a one-horse open sleigh. Those two village attractions descend regularly so that small hands can push them over the carpet to visit the manger where Baby Jesus is tucked into his little wooden manger.
It's now very, very quiet in Conor's house, The kitties, of course, are tiptoeing around, and occasionally the furnace grumbles. But otherwise, stillness.
Tomorrow I go back to my own house, where laundry awaits, and papers to grade, puppies and kitties to feed, and a sweet husband and beloved mother to cherish. Tomorrow I'll be a grown-up again. But tonight, in magic of Conor's world....reality can wait.

What a lovely word picture you've painted (and a pretty nice photo picture as well, with that great shot of the cutting of the Christmas tree). You've made me smile - and now I think I'll make some hot chocolate.
