"Golden Hour"  redux

There is a Facebook page I've come to love, and to support, called Brain Pickings, a place where short excerpts from really amazing works of literature and philosophy, even children's literature, illustration, and naturalist titles are showcased, with information about how to access the more complete works should you want to read further. Today's post included the following:

"Timing is everything. Just for a moment, in the pause before the earth rotates again into night, the cave is flooded with light. The near-nothingness of Schistostega erupts in a shower of sparkles, like green glitter spilled on the rug at Christmas… And then, within minutes, it’s gone. All its needs are met in an ephemeral moment at the end of the day when the sun aligns with the mouth of the cave… Each shoot is shaped like a feather, flat and delicate. The soft blue green fronds stand up like a glad of translucent ferns, tracking the path of the sun. It is so little. And yet it is enough."  —from GATHERING MOSS, Robin Kimmerer ... also author of BRAIDING SWEETGRASS

This gorgeous comment about the "ephemeral moment at the end of the day when the sun aligns with the mouth of the cave" reminded me how very often I am stopped short on my way through the house by the momentary quality of golden light that changes everything outside, inside, and in my spirit..."the golden moment."
